When is there more water at the Falls?
The Iguazú River flow varies significantly depending on the time of year and rainfall in its basin (which originates in the Serra do Mar, more than 1,000 km from the Falls). Here is what you can expect:
Maximum flow (summer)
4,000-10,000 m³/s during floods. The Falls roar. You get completely soaked on the lower circuits.
Normal flow
1,500-3,000 m³/s. The spectacle is still impressive. This is the flow you see most of the year.
Low flow (dry winter)
500-1,300 m³/s. The Falls look "thinner" but are still impressive. You can see rock details that are normally hidden by water.
Fun fact: Even in the driest season, Iguazú Falls remain a spectacular sight. They never "dry up." The minimum recorded flow is about 500 m³/s, which is still far more impressive than most waterfalls in the world.

Does it rain all day in Puerto Iguazú?
No. Rains are usually short, intense tropical showers, especially in the afternoon during summer. After the storm the sun comes out quickly. It is rare to have a full day of constant rain. Bring a light rain poncho and continue with the tour.
Can you visit the National Park in the rain?
Yes. The park does not close due to rain. In fact, the Falls in the rain have a special appeal: more water flow, more mist and fewer tourists. Walkways are only closed in case of extraordinary river flooding for safety.
Are there mosquitoes at the Falls?
Yes. Puerto Iguazú has a subtropical climate and there are mosquitoes year-round, peaking between January and April. Always carry repellent. Inside the park there are more on the jungle trails than on the walkways over the water, where the mist keeps them away.
When is it cheapest to travel to Iguazú?
During low season: April-May, June (before winter holidays), August-September and November. Accommodation prices can be 30-50% lower than in January or July. Flights also tend to have promotions.
When are there the fewest tourists?
